A communique from the Norwegian Commander in Chief reports that British forces .which landed in the north of Norway have made contact with the Norwegian Army. There are several more reports that the Germans are retreating from Narvik along the railway toward the Swedish frontier. A similar movement is taking place further south near Trondheim. which may be called the waist of Norway, and where, the railway from the coast to the Swedish border is 60 miles long. British forces are using reindeer to draw some of their guns. New York reports that a correspondent of the United Press of America in a message from the border near Narvik says that the British have a solid foothold below the town of Narvik. After bitter fighting all yesterday the Germans are reported to be tailing back, but their retreat is believed to be hopeless as warships in Rornbak Fiord can bombard the railway. The Swedish official news agency reports that Germany is transporting reingforcements to Trondheim by air in a steady steam from the Copenhagen airfield and bases in Jutland.
