A statement covering the financial position of the borough, presented at last night's meeting of the Masterton Borough Council disclosed, in the words of the Mayor. Mr. T. Separate rates (including arrears): Water rate. £3720 (£3021): street lightingrate £1466 (£1360); hospital rate. £3579 (£3178). Special rates: For loan, interest and sinking fund. £1423 (£1260); total rates collected. £35,316 (£34.473): plus arrears. £906 (£780); total. £36,222 (£35.253); discount allowed off rates, £1573 (£1491); rates written off, £l3l (£44); rates outstanding. £985 (£1370). The balance in the District Fund Account as al March 31. 1940, was £1443. as compared with £2507 the previous year: Loan Account. £1261 (£389) and Cemetery Account. £lO (debit £33).
