RIVERSIDE OPENING OF SEASON. CANADIAN FOURSOME WINNERS. The opening of the Riverside Golf Club's season took place on Saturday afternoon. Although there were some light showers, the weather for the most part was quite pleasant for play. In his opening speech. Mr J. Hume, president, expressed great pleasure at seeing so many visitors and members present, and said it augured well for the coming season. He felt sure that the interest displayed by members generally, and the number of new members coming forward, pointed to a very successful season. He also thanked the ladies for supplying and superintending an excellent afternoon tea. Miss R. Bradley, ladies' captain, then played the first ball and the Jinks were declared open. The competition took the form of a Canadian foursome over 9 holes, which was keenly contested and several good cards were handed in. Miss Farrell and V. Burridge tied with Miss Stalker and D. Carruthers. 28 net each, and they decided to play another three holes. This resulted in Miss Farrell and V. Burridge being two up. The links were in splendid order under the weather conditions prevailing lately, and the function was considered the most successful yet held by the club, there being 150 players taking part. The afternoon tea was in charge of Miss Bradley. Mcsdames Palamontain. Clarke and Brown, who were ably assisted by many others.
