Colson, 19, 10, 29. LADIES’ GOLF MEDAL MATCH. On the Carterton links on Saturday the ladies' club played a medal match. The best cards handed in were: —Mrs A. T. Murray, 90. 20. 70; Miss M. Smart. 96, 22, 74; Mrs Harrington, 92, 18, 74; Mrs Colson, 96, 19, 77; Miss M. Campbell, 97, 20. 77; Mrs Moroney, 96, 18. 78; Miss Welch, 96, 15, 81. The hidden partners match resulted in a tie between Mrs Murray and Miss Anderson and Miss M. Smart and Miss Lamb. PARCEL EVENING POPULAR COUPLE HONOURED. There was a very large attendance at the Parkvale Hall on Saturday evening, when a dance and parcel evening was tendered to Miss Lorna Alexander and Mr Laurie Jensen, in honour of their approaching marriage. Dancing was enjoyed throughout the evening to music supplied by Miss Verna Sorensen and Mr Gordon Udy. An «’xcellent supper was provided. At a suitable interval in the proceedings, Mr Dan Jensen, who was M.C., in a brief speech referred to the approaching marriage of the guests of the evening and the high esteem in v/hich they were held throughout the district. He asked Miss Alexander to accept and open the large array of parcels which contained valuable and -useful presents. Mr Laurie Jensen, on behalf 'of Miss Alexander and himself. thanked everyone for the most enjoyable evening given on their behalf and for the presents. Mr Warrington Junr. also spoke a few words, after which "For They are Jolly Good Fellows” was sung and dancing continued until mid- ' night. MINIATURE RIFLES SEASON TO OPEN ON TUESDAY. The opening of the Carterton Miniature Rifle Club's season will take place on Tuesday evening and promises to be a successful one. Pootbail Practice. Carterton footballers of all grades indulged m an excellent practice on the Showgrounds on Saturday. It is expected the club will field fairly good teams in all grades again this season. Hockey. At Carrington Park on Saturday the ladies, men and boy's teams held excellent practices.

Personal Items. News has been received from Sydney by Mrs Corbet, of Carrington, that Mrs A. E. Quinn, late proprietress of the Club Hotel, Carterton, who has keen very seriously ill for a long time is making good progress towards recovery. Mrs Quinn’s many friends wili be pleased to hear the improved state of her health. The wedding of Mi’ L. Jensen and Miss L. Alexander will take place in the Presbyterian Church on Wednesday evening, as is to be followed by festivities in the State Theatre. Mr and Mrs A. Ingley, of Carterton, have left on a fortnight’s holiday to New Plymouth. S.M. Court. The monthly sitting of the Carterton S.M. Court will be held in the Courthouse on Wednesday afternoon next. P. & A. Society. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society’s general committee will be held on Saturday next at 10.30 a.m. Among the business to be transacted will be the nomination of committees. Painful Accident. A very painful injury was suffered by Mr' Archie Clark, of Faraday Street. Carterton, yesterday. Accompanied by his brother he was engaged 4 in getting firewood and when in the act of chopping, a piece of timber flew up and struck him very heavily in the left eye. He was conveyed to his home and Dr. R. N. Campbell was called in. Upon examination it was found that the eye was very badly bruised and swollen. The doctor administered first aid and Mr Clark was yesterday afternoon taken to Wellington to consult Dr. Simpson, eye specialist. It was not known whether the eye would be permanently injured or rot.
