SHERRY POURS INTO STREET. £lOOO FLOOD IN CAPE TOWN. A 10.000-gallon flood of free sherry running down the street provided scores of coloured people and natives in Cape Town with an hour of rapture. I A vat belonging to a wine firm and I containing more than £l.OOO of sherry suddeny began to feel the weight of ■ its 40 years. A valve at the bottom of, i the vat fell out and the wine poured j on to the floor in a golden flood and ' right out. at Rte front door. In about seven minutes the vat was dry. nothing that the staff tried being able to stem the rush. Coloured people camo rushing from all quarters. Some had tins with which they scooped up the sherry. Others, who had omitted to provide themselves in that way. found the opportunity’ too good to miss and lay’ down on the pavement to lap up the sherry with their tongues. A police van soon turned up and chased the self-invited guests away.
