LADIES’ ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING. I ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The annual meeting of the WairaI rapa Ladies’ Hockey Association was ; held in the rooms of the Masterton i Y.M.C.A. on Thursday night. Mr W. Harding presided. Al the opening of the meeting delegates stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memories of the Hon M. J. Savage and of Mr D. Pickering, i Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow: —Patron. Mr J. Robertson; president, Mr F. Madsen; vice-presidents. Messrs C. Spiers. J. Barnes. Sent’.. R. Costello. C. Kemp Goodin. G. Morice. G. Allen. N. Raynor. G. Maloney and B. Roberts; secretary, Miss B. Vincent: recording secretary, Mrs K. Te Tau; auditor. Mr J. Brown; postponement committee. Messrs Noble and Morice; protest committee. Messrs Fisher. Simmonds and Bliss: six-a-side committee, Messrs C. Spiers, A. Southey. J. Rutherford and. C. Adams; selectors—senior, Mr C. .Spiers; junior. Mrs Te Tau. Mr Spiers was elected finance organiser. The balance-sheet which, together with the annual report, was read and confirmed, showed that the year had been successful financially. The Kia Kaha Club (Greytown) was granted affiliation and enlered a senior team. April 27 was fixed as opening day for competition matches. Miss N. Spiers (Wellington) was elected delegate to attend the annual meeting of the Now Zealand Women’s Hockey Association -in Wellington on April 24. She was instructed that the Wairarapa Association favoured holding the New Zealand tournament at the usual date in August and to vote in favour of the granting of a loan from the oversea fund to the Government lor the duration of the war and six months afterwards. The secretary was instructed to write to Ute Oil Fuel Controller asking if petrol allowances could be granted to teams travelling during the winter months. A donation of £1 is was made te. the Women's Division of St John Ambulance Brigade. M. Keltic was granted a transfer from Kia Ora to Kia Kaha (Greytown). It was decided that if a senior team had a bye members should be asked to help with the refereeing of other games. The closing date for nomination of teams was .fixed for April 20.
MEN’S ASSOCIATION MEETING LAST NIGHT. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The annual general meeting of the Wairarapa Hockey . Association was held in the P. and A. Rooms, Carterton. last evening. Mr G. Hayne (president) presided over a large attendance of members. The annual report (previously published! and the balance sheet were read and adopted. It was shown that the association had experienced a very successful season, while the financial position was very satisfactory. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr J. Fisher; president, Mr G. Hayne; vice-presidents. Messrs G. G. Hancox. L. S. Nicol. C. N. Cole, E. Tooby, E. Hanley, J. Watkins; hon secretary and treasurer, Mr R. S. Moor; delegates to New Zealand Association, Mr T. W. Richmond (Christchurch); hon auditor. Mr E. R. Rogers; management committee, Messrs J. Fisher, G. Hayne, P. Cobb, J. R. Martin, M. Worsfold; tournament committee, Messrs C. N. Cole, E. Tooby, J. R. Martin and the secretary; postponement committee, Messrs G. Maloney, S. Fisher, R. S. Moor; fixtures committee. Messrs R. S. Moor, A. Harrington. The chairman asked the meeting to stand in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Mt- D. A. Pickering. Mr Pickering was a keen supporter of hockey and his services would be greatly missed.
It was decided to hold the annual tournament on June 3, the King's Birthday, and a dance in the evening. The Wairarapa Women's Association is to be asked to co-operate. With a view to making the tourney more attractive to the spectators it was decided to play six-a-side in place of the usual five-a-side. The meeting thought that a six-a-side tournament would tend to produce a higher standard of play and prove more spectacular. It was decided to open the 1940 season on April 27. Nominations of teams are to close on Saturday. April 20. For the purpose of revising certain rules of the constitution, a special general meeting will be held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms, Masterton, on Thursday. May 2. at 7.30 p.m.
The usual honorarium was donated to the secretary. Mr Hayne conveyed to Mr Moor the thanks of the association. and his own personal thanks for the way he had carried out his duties as secretary. A donation of £2 2s was made to the St John Ambulance Brigade. Mr J. Fisher thanked the association for again electing him to office. He was very pleased to see so many young members present. Mr Hayne expressed his thanks Io all those who had supported him in the past in the office which he occupied. He was sure that the same support would be forthcoming in the future. Mr Hayne appealed to the young members to get behind the local associations and assist in making the Lansdowne grounds even better than they are. Mr Hayne expressed the thanks of the association to the Press for the excellent services they had always rendered to hockey. The association was informed that several members of the Referees’ Association were retiring this season, and the association is appealing to all explayers and those interested to offer their services as referees. A meeting of this department of the association will be held on Monday. April 22. at 7.30 o'clock in the Kia Ora Rooms. Church Street. A vote of thank's to the chair concluded the meeting.
