I As a result of one of their number I being dismissed yesterday, employees I of the Longburn Freezing Works staged a stay-in strike. As far as could be gleaned last night, the men had been warned that the practice of taking away livers had to cease and yesterday when one of them was discovered with a liver in his possession he was dismissed. The remainder of tire workers refused to quit the works at the usual “knocking-off" time as a protest against the action of the management. Inquiries from the management were met with a disinclination to make any statement, about the matter. It is understood that, an executive head from the union headquarters in Wellington (Mr Thompson) had been summoned to Lmrgburn to discuss the matter with the workers. Al, 12.30 a.m. the men wort* still at ■ lie works, matting themselves as comfortable :-s possible, apparently intending Io spend the night there.
