TEA SUPPLIES
AMPLE STOCKS ON HANI) NO RESTRICTIONS APPLIED. STATEMENT BY MR NASH. WELLINGTON. This Day. Referring to the import, licensing provisions of the July-December period. the Minister of Customs (Mr Nash i said there appeared to be some misapprehension regarding tea. He understood that a statement had appeared in a North Auckland newspaper to the effect that tea was now a prohibited import, whereas the only restriction announced with the fourth period licences was in connection with an odd classification of tea specified as tea Nei. Mr Nash said there never had been any reduction in the importation of tea. indeed every facility had been given by the Customs Department for the import of lea to the full quantity admitted prior to import selection procedure. Stocks of lea in New Zealand were ample for consumers’ requirements and further adequate suplilies were also fully assured.
