There were several keen finishes on the opening day of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club's autumn meeting at Hastings yesterday. The weather was fine and the track was hard. The Ring won the Hawke’s Bay Cup after a hard contest with Lindrum and the open sprint was won by Black Thread, who carried 9.12 and outclassed his opponents, bringing off a,surprise. At the Oamaru meeting Thermidor won the Cup after a keen finish, and Strip accounted for the Stewards’ Handicap, winning by three lengths from Nightcalm.
