WILL FIGHT ON

DECLARATION BY PREMIER OF NORWAY REPORTED IN BROADCAST FROM HELSINKI. NAZI TACTICS OF DECEPTION. A Daventry comment states that it was broadcast from Helsinki that the Prime Minister of Norway had declared after a meeting of the Norwegian Parliament that Norway would fight on. . It was added that the Finns had placed at Norway’s disposal a radio station in the north and that presumably they had extended the arrangement to allow Norway to use the Helsinki station also. It was also suggested that the Germans might be putting out from Norway through Stockholm news to suit their own book. Berlin claims that negotiations have begun between Germany and Denmark and Norway “to preserve the independence of the Norwegian Kingdom and its defences and the freedom and independence of the Danish and Norwegian peoples.’’

STOCKHOLM REPORT NORWAY PROPOSING TO NEGOTIATE. AGREEMENT “WITH GERMANY SOUGHT. LONDON. April 10. A Stockholm message states that the Norwegian Parliament, meeting secretly at Elverum, approved a proposal by the Government to nominate a committee of three “with the aim of negotiating an agreement with the German authorities in conformity with the objectives elaborated by the Prime Minister." Those appointed were Messrs Lykke and Nowincket, both former Premiers, and Mr Sundby. The message says that the Parliament also approved the appointment of three Ministers to take necessary decisions till it was possible to convoke Parliament normally. Two representatives from each party were also appointed with whom the Government could rapidly deliberate. The Prime Minister, Mr Nygaardsyold, urged the members to go back to their homes “with greeting to the people at this difficult and sad time,” He added, “I am sure the people desire what we desire, and if this is so we can hope that the disaster which has struck us will have happy conclusions.” The President of the Parliament, Dr Hambro, said: “We hope and believe that the people will have the power and will lo support a still harder period of transition, and that the future of our country will be preserved for our children. May God bless our fatherland!" Dr Hambro’s last words were repeated by all members, who afterward sang the National Anthem. The session was then adjourned.

EFFORTS FOR PEACE STILL REPORTED BY NAZIS NEGOTIATIONS WITH PUPPET GOVERNMENT. (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, April 10. German official statements and Press reports continue to report that Norway is negotiating for peace and say that a mutually satisfactory agreement is imminent. British Foreign Office officials and Norwegian officials in London deny the report. It is probable that Germany is negotiating with the puppet government, in regard to which the latest message from Scandinavia says the German Minister to Norway called on King Haakon to clarify who was responsible for governing Norway. Meantime, fighting continues in Norway at sea and on land, despite an annoncement from Berlin: “Operations for the protection of the northern countries' neutrality are finished. - ’

MESSAGE TO DANES DECLARATION OF BRITISH SYMPATHY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. April 9. The following message was broadcast to Denmark from London:— “For the second time Denmark has been brutally invaded by Germany. The British peoples received the news with deep indignation, and send the Danish people a message of warm sympathy. This event has strengthened the British resolve to pursue the war till Europe is liberated from the menace of Prussian aggression.” DETAILS NOT AVAILABLE GERMAN REPORT ON NAVAL BATTLE. (Received This Day. 10.20 a.m.) BERLIN. April 10. It is authoritatively stated that the North Sea battle is continuing. Details are not yet available. German reconnaissance planes observed British naval forces and German fighting formations are now attacking the British at various points.
