WARSHIPS AND TRANSPORTS SUNK Seven Supply Ships Destroyed at Narvik NORWEGIANS MAINTAINING DEFENCE ON LAND HEAVY FIGHTING IN AREA NORTH OF OSLO A great naval battle is now raging in the Skagerrak, at the mouth of the two channels which separate Denmark and Norway from Sweden, Daventry reports. Four German warships and two transports are reported to have been sunk, three of the warships by the British and the fourth by a Norwegian cruiser-minelayer. Two German cruisers have been sunk by the Norwegians and one by the British and twp others damaged by the R.A.F. at Bergen. A large German destroyer has been sunk at Narvik and three other German destroyers there were damaged and set on fire, while seven supply ships at Narvik were also sunk. The British, at Narvik, lost one destroyer sunk, and one wrecked, while one was badly damaged and one slightly damaged. Five British destroyers steamed up the fiord and engaged six of the latest German destroyers, one of which was torpedoed. Norwegian troops are rallying gallantly on the west coast and north of Oslo. A major battle is proceeding 45 miles northeast of Oslo. A report from Stockholm states that Bergen and Trondheim have been recaptured by British forces. The report is not confirmed in London.
