Mr and Mrs W. Gaze, of Wanganui, are visitors to Masterton. Mr and Mrs Catherall, Hastings, are on a visit to Masterton. Mr. and Mrs. Wade and Mr. Tremaine (Wellington) are staying at the Hotel Midland, Masterton. The Rev H. J. Tozer, who has been Methodist minister in Whangaroi for some years, has left for Petone, his future charge. The Rev G. Brown succeeds to the Whangarei charge, Mr D. R. Grenfell, M.P., Swansea, who has been visiting New Zealand as representative of the United Kingdom branch of the Empire Parliamentary Association at the Centennial celebrations, has left for Australia. Mr J. H. Gardiner, A.M.1.E.E., of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board staff, has been appointed electrical engineer to the Otago Electric Power Board al Milton. and will take up his duties there at the beginning of next month. The Minister of Public Works, Mr Semple, arrived at Dunedin yesterday and left this morning for Invercargill. He will attend a land-clearing demonstration by modern machinery at Tuatapere. On Saturday he will visit the Homer tunnel and Milford Sound before inspecting the Haast Pass Road. Cable advice has been received in Dunedin of the death as a result of an aircraft accident of Pilot Officer M. E. F. Barnett, son of Mr Geoffrey Barnett, Dunedin. Pilot Officer Barnett, was educated at Christ's College and underwent his preliminary training for the Royal Air Force at Wigram. He left for England a few months ago. Messrs. P. Lord, A. E. Gillis, F. R. Flauvell (Auckland), J. F. McKenzie (Christchurch), M. Smith. M. Heath (Hamilton). Wise. Mrs. G. McLeod. A. W. Foote. H. Robb, J. R. Robb (Wellington). Miss F. McLeod tHinakura), C. Johnston (Kahautara), M. Saunders (Martinborough) were guests recently at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton.
There was a large and representative attendance at the funeral, which took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon. of Mrs C. Clarke, a well known and highly respected citizen. Services at the residence and graveside were conducted by the Rev John Davie. The pall bearers wore Messrs J. Yates (son-in-law). J. Clarke (representing the Masterton Fire Station). N. Clark (grandson), R. Morris. N. Morris (nephews) and S. Trass. Among the array, of beautiful floral tributes were wreaths from the Martinborough Bowling and Croquet Club, and officers and members of the Masterton Fire Brigade, and sympathisers from all part’s of the Wairarapa, Manawatu districts and North Auckland. The flag at the ‘Masterton Fire Brigade was flying at half-mast as a mark of respect to the late Mrs Clarke, who with her husband, the late Mr C. Clarke, resided at the station for 18 years, during which period Mr Clarke was station officer. The superintendent. Mr T. B. Clarke, and Mr .1, Clarke represented the brigade at the funeral,
