TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD

MEETING IN MASTERTON. FLORAL WORK DEMONSTRATION. The Townswomen's Guild held its monthly mooting yesterday' afternoon in the Y.M.C.A. Hall. Mrs A. L. Bennett. presided over a large attendance. The meeting opened with the singing of the Ode, and the reciting of the Aspirations and a prayer for peace. A minute’s silence was observed out of respect to the memory of the late Prime Minister. Mr M. J. Savage. Mrs Bennett welcomed members and said that she hoped that they' would enjoy' the programmes arranged for the year. Mrs Judd reported having received a letter from the Y.M.C.A. and Salvation Army .Appeal Committee, thanking her and the band of collectors, for their assistance in connection with the National Patriotic Fund. An interesting travel talk was given by' Mrs Morris, who spoke on South Africa, where she resided for 24 years. Mrs Jarvis, accompanied by Mrs Taylor on the piano, gave a much appreciated violin solo. “Norwegian Cradle Song." It was decided to send a delegate (Mrs Bennett) to the recreational meeting which is to be held in the Municipal Hall. Members decided to help with the sewing for the Red Cross Society. The daughters of members, calling themselves “Chips," recently' gave a concert for the purpose of raising money for the local Patriotic Fund, and handed in a substantial donation. Mrs Coe, winner of the points prize, was presented with a Shelley china cup and saucer. After afternoon tea had been served. Mrs Scharnweber gave an interesting demonstration of floral work', making dainty' afternoon and evening shoulder sprays, and also a sheaf of mauve asters. In appreciation of her display' Mrs Scharnweber was presented with a small token.

The meeting closed with the singing of the Ode to Friendship and the National Anthem.
