WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT OPAKI. INTERESTING COLLECTION OF SPOONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs A. Beetham (president) occupied the chair at the monthly meeting of the Opaki Women's Institute, which was held at the home of Mrs J. Cooper, Opaki. An interesting collection of spoons, the property of Miss lorns, souvenirs of an overseas trip, were on display. Incidents connected with their places of origin, related by Miss lorns, added interest to the exhibit. Pearl, oyster shells, with pearls attached, and other natural curiosities, were shown by Mrs Wingate. Two naming competitions were won by Mrs V. Buick. Miss lorns and Miss Robinson were appointed delegates to the Wairarapa Federation Council meeting to be held in the Masonic Hall. Masterton. on Wednesday, April 24. As the institute will be serving morning tea on that day all possible helpers were asked to be at the hall by 10 a.m. It was decided that the monthly sewing competitions be articles suitable for the clothing collections for refugees. The secretary reported that two parcels had been forwarded for soldiers. An invitation to the first birthday celebration of the Te Ore Ore Institute was accepted. The winners of points prizes for the past year were announced as follows: Mrs M. Wveth 1. Mrs Ravner 2. Miss M. Rollo 3. The mottos will be judged in May. The competitions for May will be (a) best Hower. <b> garment for child from 2 to 4 years. Mrs Beetham invited the Institute to hold the next meeting on May 2 at her home. The president thanked Mrs Cooper for her hospitality. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
