The president welcomed the new members of the committee elected at the annual meeting. A vote of sympathy' was passed with the Government in the loss of the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon M. J. Savage, the members standing in silence for a few moments. A report in connection with conference held in Wellington on March 15. which Mrs Caselberg and Miss Sellar had attended as delegates, was read, and a letter was also received asking i that the following resolution passed by the conference be considered and ratilied by' the branch. “That this meet- ! ing of delegates from the branches of the Navy League approve of the principle- of closer co-ordination of the New Zealand branches for the purpose of producing greater efficiency 7 and avoidance of duplication, especially as regards the providing of comforts during war time for the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, and Mercantile Marine, and recommends that, the best method of achieving such co-ordi-nation would be by' the setting up of a Dominion organisation and that a sub-committee be constituted to consider. details.” The meeting was unanimously in favour of the resolution. It was stated that a further conference would be held early in May to decide details of war work to be undertaken by the Navy League, and the branches will be advised accord-
ingly.
The president reported having been asked by the Red Cross Society to send two representatives from the Navy League to act in connection with their association. The committee regretted that it could not at present elect delegates to the Red Cross Association. while the Navy League had great sympathy with the Red Cross movement and wished it every success, until it was known definitely what work would be required for the Navy and other sea services, the committee regretted that as an organisation they could not at present undertake to assist other organisations.. It was reported that the wool, depot would be open at the Midland Hotel on Fridays only from 2.30 to 4.30 p.m. A large amount of wool had been issued and that since the last packing 216 garments had been received.
