CARTERTON

PARKVALE SOCIAL CLUB ANNUAL MEETING. ( \ (“Times-Age" Special.) At the annual meeting of the Parkvale Social Club held in the Parkvale Hall, there was a good attendance of members over which Mr E. T. Bliss presided. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted, the credit balance for the year being £4 5s 9d. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President. Mr C. Jensen, Junr; vice-president, Mr E. T. Bliss; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. Ward; club captain. Mr W. Adams; committee, Messrs H. F. Rayner. P. Andrews, W. Ward, Mrs Les Rayner and Miss M. Adlam. Mesdames L. Rayner and R. Williams were supervisors. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr A. H. Elkins for having audited the books of the club. He was reappointed to the position. It was reported that the club had been operating for six seasons during the winter months and had been the means of holding numerous entertainments for the public, such.as table tennis, card parties and dancing. The club in the past had affiliated with the Wairarapa Table Tennis Association. It had been quite successful in championship matches, and had also played numerous matches with clubs in other districts. It was resolved that a ladies’ and men’s prize should be given this year in the card section, and an aggregate prize every 10 nights. It was stated that club membership was open to all and new members would be welcomed. It was decided to hold a dance and euchre tournament on Monday, April 22. and that Udy’s Orchestra be engaged to supply the music. The cards and weekly ping pong matches will commence on Wednesday. May 1 and will continue for 20 nights, on each Wednesday throughout the winter. Dancing will follow supper each evening. U ST. MARK’S LODGE s' _

INSTALLATION OF W.M. The annual installation of the W.M., and the investiture of the officers of St Mark's Masonic Lodge took place in the Lodge Room, Carterton, last evening, the ceremony being conducted by Rt Wor Bro J. H. Jerram, assisted by officers of Grand Lodge. The officers elected were: I.P.M. Wor Bro Geo Brown; W.M., W. Bro Ben Sewell, D.M.. W Bro J. J. Knox-Smith. P.G.S.; S.W., Bro R. N. Campbell; J.W., Bro W. Gregor; Chaplain, V.W. Bro W. F. Stent.- P.G.C.; treasurer, Bro J. Johnston; secretary, W Bro R. Smith, P.M.; D of C, W Bro W. J. Candy; S.D., Bro J. L. Harris; J.D.. Bro J. V. Mr and Mrs Guy Booth and family, of Pahautanui, are visiting Carterton on holiday. Mr Fred Sexton, of Pahiatua, and well known in Carterton and Gladstone, was a visitor to Carterton yesterday. Mr Wm Abbott, of Clareville, and his sister, Mrs P. Hodder, of Lincoln Road, Carterton. are visiting Wellington. Mr A. T. White, of Paraparaumu, is a visitor to Carterton and will visit Masterton before returning home. Mr "White was one time headmaster at the Carterton School. He was present at the installation of Bro B. Sewell as Master of St Mark’s Masonic Lodge last night. The health of Mr Thos Johnston, of Belvedere Road. Carterton. is causing anxiety. Footballers Training. The Carterton Football Club members commenced their night training activities on the Showgrouhds last evening by electric light. Prize Not Yet Claimed. Up to last evening no one had come forward to claim the prize in the recent art union in connection with the swimming baths project of the Wairarapa South County Council and the Carterton Borough Council. The number of the ticket is 1158.
