TURF NEWS AND NOTES

CURRENT TOPICS FROM STABLE AND COURSE Easy Work for Horses at Opaki MASTER SOLWAY AND GAY CHOU TO VISIT NELSON (BY ‘"THE GRAFTER.' - ) There is very little serious work being done at the present time at the Opaki racecourse, following on the recent Manawatu meeting. Most of the horses are going along at half or three-quarter pace. They are for the most part so well advanced in training that it only requires a real business gallop or two to bring them well up to the \ collar. The course is in good order and particularly suitable for the efficient training of horses. B. Burgess will visit the Nelson-Blenheim circuit taking a team with him, which is expected to include the Black Ronald —Missmaid gelding Masterton Solway, owned by Mr J. C. Judd, of Masterton, and his own horse Gay Chou. It is not anticipated that any other stable will be represented at these meetings, but it is quite on the cards that there will be a strong representation at the Otaki Maori meeting early in May. Master Solway has been accepted for the Novice Stakes and the Electric Hack Handicap at the Nelson meeting on Saturday and in whichever race he starts form suggests that he will give a good account of himself. Gay Chou has accepted for the Nelson Cup and should be in the money.

Two-year-olds in Work.

To make her debut at Whahgarei is Kraal, a.two-year-old by Vaals —Marion Acre, in P. E. Pope’s stable. Kraal compares favourably with the rest of her age.
