SALVATION ARMY
- -o MRS. EVAN SMITH WELCOMED. There was a large and representative attendance of women's organisations of Masterton at a welcome gath-’ ering tendered Mrs. Evan Smith, wife of Commissioner Evan Smith, in the Salvation Army Hall yesterday afternoon. The Mayoress (Mrs. T. Jordan) presided, and cordially welcomed Mrs. Smith. Among' those present was Mrs J. Robertson. On behalf of the Home League. Mrs. Church extended a welcome to Mrs. Smith. Several items wore artistically rendered by the League of Mothers’ Choir conducted by Mrs. Miller Hope, who expressed her pleasure in attending the function. A prayer was offered by Mrs Fairbrother, and Mrs. Mahaflie gave a Scripture reading. Mrs. Smith impressed her audience with an address in which she dealt with what was required of a true home-maker. She painted a picture of a home built on “the only sure foundation,” with Christ as the central and controlling force.
