FAREWELL GATHERING
> mr d. McCaskill honoured. BY TEACHERS OF DISTRICT. A very pleasant social was recently held in the Country Women’s Club Rooms, Masterton, the occasion being a farewell gathering arranged by the Masterton branch of the Teachers’ Institute in honour of Mr D. McCaskill, who until recently was Senior Inspector for the Wellington district. The popularity of Mi- McCaskill was plainly shown by the fact that some seventy teachers, wives and friends were present to extend to him their best wishes in his retirement. Mrs McCaskill, who accompanied her husband, was presented with a beautiful bouquet. • Miss C. G. Keddell, as president of the branch, presented Mr McCaskill, on behalf of the Wairarapa teachers, with a beautiful china tea service. In making the presentation Miss Keddell referred at length to the high esteem in which Mr McCaskill was held by the teachers of the district. In reply Mr McCaskill thanked tho teachers for their gift, and said that it was with regret that he had to severe his connection with the teaching service. He gave those present somf useful advice and recounted amusing anecdotes of his career as a teacher and inspector. At the conclusion of the speech tho gathering sang "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." Items given by Mrs R. Miller. Misses D. G. O'Donnell. D. G. Armstrong. C. G. Keddell and Mr C. Torr were great-, ly appreciated and contributed towards the social success of the gathering. Mesdames W. G. Perry and MillerHope were the accompanistes. Supper was served by the ladies’ committee. The function concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.
