WITHOUT WARNING
NORWEGIAN SHIP SUNK BY U=BOAT HEAVY LOSS OF LIFE. NO ATTEMPT BY ATTACKERS TO SAVE CREW. Another Norwegian ship has fallen victim to a German submarine. Daventry reports. The vessel was torpedoed without warning by a U-boat which remained cruising in the vicinity for half-an-hour without making any attempt to save the crew. The ship was one of just over 2000 tons, and was torpedoed 30 miles from land, off the northern Scottish coast. All the officers and nine members of the crew were killed, and the ship sank in two or three minutes. Two lifeboats were launched and one capsized, only four of the occupants being saved. A Finnish ship picked up the survivors. BOMBING ATTACKS TWO ENEMY PLANES SHOT DOWN. THIRD MACHINE DAMAGED. BERGEN. April 6. German bombers attacked the Norwegian steamer Mira on eight separate occasions during his six-day voyage from Newcastle. Warships shot down two of the attackers and damaged a third, which was forced down off Stavanger on April 3.
