The Rev S. Strang. Fairlie, has been accepted as a Presbyterian chaplain with the Forces. Messrs. H. Le Marquand (Gisborne). D. R. Irving (Blenheim), P. Hickey iWellingtoni and .1. Stewart iPalmerston North) are among guests at the Prince of Wales Hotel. Masterton. The following members of a party touring New Zealand were guests at the Midland Hotel, Masterton, last night: —Messrs D. Morrison. L. Soilness, E. Tapper, T. Ritchie. A. R. Porteous, A. Helm, A. Stone, F. Campbell, J. Paton and A. Paton. The following Masterton officers are appointed to the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, dated January 27. 1940: Lieutenants D. T. Herbert (late N.Z.E.F.), Raymond Lee (retired list), C. C. Marsack (retired list). Second Lieutenants G. R. Booth. M.M.. A. L. Hibbs, D.C.M.. and E. Sortain Smith (all retired list).

The Member for Maslertom Mr. J. Robertson, has had to excuse himself lately from accepting some important engagements in Masterton, and in other parts of his constituency. Mr Robertson, it is understood, is at present much occupied in very important committee work in connection with the Government's policy preparations. Mr A. Walker, acting branch manager at Dunedin, of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., has been transferred to Oamaru as branch manager, replacing Mr S. E/S. George, who is about to retire on superannuation. The office of chief clerk in the Dunedin branch, which has been occupied for some years by Mr Walker, will be filled by Mr 11. C. Cramond.

There was a large attendance at the funeral on Saturday afternoon of the late Mr. C. A. E. Vollheim. The Rev. F. J. Parker conducted a service at the residence and also at the graveside. Among the* wreaths were tributes from the president and members of the Masterton Bowling Club, and the Masterton Municipal Band. The pall-bearers, representatives of the Foresters' Lodge and friends, were: Messrs. L. H. Graham, H. Deadman, AV. R. Walker, C. Leigh. E. Bolton and C. C. Wilmshurst.
