U-BOAT CREWS

PRISONERS IN BRITAIN. MUCH LARGER NUMBERS KILLED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. April 4. Following the announcement yesterday that the total of combatant prisoners of war in Britain was 362. it is learnt from informative quarters that on March 8. after a little more than six months’ warfare, the then total of 257 prisoners comprised 23 Üboat officers and 195 ratings and 12 air force officers and 27 men. Concerning the increase in the last month no similar detailed information is yet available. but when one realises the small chances of survival for the personnel of the destroyed U-boats some idea of the total depletion in the number of the trained Nazi U-boat personnel may be gained, for many times this number must have perished with their vessels.
