HARBOUR COLLISION
REOPENING OF INQUIRY IN SYDNEY RECOVERY OF HAWSER. SAID TO HAVE BEEN HELD DOWN BY ANCHOR. By Telegraph—Press Association -- Copyright. SYDNEY. April G. The marine court of inquiry into the collision between a Blue Star linerand a Union Company freighter on March 8 was reopened today somewhat dramatically upon a request by Mr Windeyer. K.C.. who is appearing for the Blue Star Line. Evidence was given to the effect that, while grappling for the body of the drowned seaman near the Harbour Bridge. David Miller recovered a 10 or 12-inch hawser. Mr Windeyer suggested that the hawser belonged to the Union Company's freighter, which was badly damaged in collision, and also that it was being held down by the freighter's anchor. Mr Evans, appearing for the Union Company, said he would not deny that the hawser belonged to the Union Company's freighter. He argued that it was not important whether the anchor was within 100 feet of Millers Point, as there was no evidence as to when' it fell off the ship. He claimed that the finding of the hawser proved nothing. The inquiry was further adjourned till next. Thursday.
