CARRIED ON EFFECTIVE!.,Y IN MEDITERRANEAN (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, April 4. Though less in the public eye, contraband control in the Mediterranean is being carried on as effectively as that in northern waters. Last month alone, the cargoes of 498 ships, exclusive of vessels coming from the Far East, were considered in the Mediterranean control bases. In a single patrol area in the Mediterranean 288 ships have been boarded in the last Iwo months for inspection of their papers and 698 have been communicated with by signal. Most of them were allowed to proceed direct.
