RELIEF WORK
MEN RESUME AT BURWOOD. 'WITHOUT MINISTER’S AUTHORITY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. Although a No. 13 Scheme relief job at the Burwood Coif Course on which 57 men were employed was closed down by the Minister of Public Works (Mr. Semple) on March 19, it was revealed today that 26 men affected by Mr. Semple's decision are again working on the job. It was stated that these men had received notice to return to work on the day following the Minister's declaration terminating work on the job and they had been working continuously from that time. At the time of his visit to the golf links, Mr. Semple was acting for the Minister of Labour (Mr. Webb) who concurred in his decision to close the job down. In an interview by telephone today, Mr. Semple asserted that the men had not returned to work on his authority or on the authority of the Minister of Labour.
