NEW CRUISER

WELCOMED IN SYDNEY. VESSEL OF LEANDER CLASS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY. April 4. Australia's newest cruiser. H.M.A.S. Perth, of the Leander class, made her maiden entry into Sydney harbour this morning, heralded by cheers from crowds lining the foreshores and tooting of ferry-boat sirens. Scores of launches and yachts accompanied the Perth up the harbour to her berth at Garden Island, where relatives and next of kin of the officers and the 500 Australian ratings who brought the ship to Australia following protracted patrol duty in the Atlantic were allowed aboard for a happy reunion. A spectacular parade of 5000 naval officers and ratings from various warships at present in port will be held through Sydney tomorrow. At least 10 naval bands will participate.
