PROPOSED ACQUISITION (IV STATE REPORTED ASSURANCE BY MR NASH. SAID TO HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO CONFERENCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. An assurance that the Government would take over the Bank of New Zealand in the very near future was given to the recent conference of the New Zealand Labour Party in Wellington by the Minister of Finance (the Hon W. Nash). Christchurch delegates to the conference revealed this announcement today. They said Mi- Nash had been forced into making a statement on the matter. Mr Nash, it is reported, also revealed to the conference that he had consulted the chairman of directors and General Manager of the bank with a view to ascertaining the best way for the Government to assume complete control. The proposals, he said, would receive 'early consideration by Cabinet. NO INFORMATION OBTAINABLE FROM DANK. WELLINGTON. This Day. Inquiries made at the Bank of Now Zealand today failed io elicit any information on the Christchurch report of the Government intention to take over the bank'.
