LATE MR. SAVAGE
TRIBUTES BY BRITISH STATESMEN SPEECHES IN BOTH HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT. INTENSE LOYALTY TO EMPIRE. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. LONDON, April 2. Both Houses of Parliament paid tributes to the late Mr M. J. Savage. The Prime Minister. Mr Neville Chamberlain, said: “Some of us. who met him in the Coronation year, were impressed with his qualities of outspoken opinion, quickness of comprehension and intense loyalty to Imperial connections. Mr Savage was a true lover of peace, but he recognised that it was necessary to take up arms to save peace. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr C. R. Atlee. said: “Mr Savage conducted a wise and vigorous policy, strengthening his country and equipping it to meet new conditions.” Lord Snell in the House of Lords, said: "Mr Savage’s death is a heavy blow.” Lord Crewe paid a tribute to Mr Savage’s capacity and character.
