COSY THEATRE

“ALEXANDER'S RAGTIME BAND." The “family” season commencing tonight is one of outstanding excellence. Heading the programme is the delightful “Alexander’s Ragtime Band,” a story of tender and moving romance woven round the life of Irvine Berlin and featuring his famous melodies. Tyrone Power, Alice Faye and Don Ameche head a cast of thousands. No more popular production has ever been made and this is not to be wondered at as its appeal is to all classes. Why should anyone shoot a corpse? Expect to be baffled, expect to be thrilled, expect almost anything, for that’s what happens in the year's most mystifying clue-hunt, “The Great Hospital Mystery,’’ the associate feature, with Jane Darwell in a featured role. Fright, suspense, horror —all go overboard when a nitwit night nurse, Joan Davis, with a scream like an ambulance siren, turns mystery into hysteria as gunmen invade the great Samaritan Hospital. With an unhappy aptitude for always being in the wrong place at the right time, the loony “white angel” , has the honour of discovering all the bodies, all the clutching hands and all the evil faces at the windows. The picture features Sally Blane and Thomas Back in the romantic leads, with Sig Rumann as what seems to be the menace.
