GRAF SPEE BATTLE
RECONSTRUCTED FOR FILM. NO PROFESSIONAL ACTION. Within 24 hours of the Ajax and the Exeter arriving at Plymouth, officers and men who took part in the Admiral Graf Spec battie reenacted the fighting scenes on board the warships. They did se. with Admiralty co-operation and sanction, for a film which the public will see in a month. The picture contains an authentic reconstruction of a modern naval battle, based on the ships' logs and the vivid memory of those who took part in the River Plate action. No professional actors took part in the scenes, but most of the men who stuck heroically to their posts during the battle. This unprecedented film material is being incorporated in “For Freedom,” which has been in the making at the Gaumont British Studios. Shepherd's Bush, for the last month.
Many merchant officers and seamen who were prisoners in the Admiral Graf Spee have already played their parts. They include Captain Dove of the Africa Shell.
