NATURALISATION PROBLEMS. OTTAWA. In a young country like Canada which has attracted thousands of immigrants in past years, many of whom failed to take out naturalisation papers for themselves or their families complications were bound to occur as a result of the declaration of war. Thousands of young Canadians are seeking to enlist in Canada’s overseas forces many of them being sons of immigrants who are only too anxious to offer their services to their adopted country. To straighten out many tangles of naturalisation, the Canadian Government has issued information as to “Who Is A British Subject" and thus given the privilege to enlist. Any person born in. his Majesty s Dominion or on board a British ship, or born anywhere of natural born British subject parents or born abroad (since January 1, 1915) of a father whe is a British subject by naturalisation is a British subject according to the law. . . Naturalisation of individuals within the British Empire prior to certain dates was only of value within theii respective country and was not recognised in other parts of the Empire. Since January 1, 1915, in Canada and in Great Britain, in Newfoundland as from May 14. 1916, in Australia from January 1. 1921. and in South Africa from May 21, 1926, such naturalisation became Empire-wide in its scope.
