HEAVY DAMAGE TO NAZI AIR RAIDERS OTHERS WARMLY RECEIVED IN THE NORTH. DRIVEN OFF WITHOUT BOMBS BEING DROPPED. The following Daventry reports have been rebroadcast by the New Zealand National stations: — A German coastal air raider was engaged over the North Sea yesterday, and it is doubtful if it got home. When last seen it was listing heavily, and black smoke was issuing from the starboard engine. Other German raiders got a hot reception when they appeared off the Orkneys and Shetlands, and were driven off without a single bomb being dropped. Another attack on neutral shipping was reported when two Dutch trawlers reached home. Both ships were clearly marked with the Dutch colours. AMERICA AND POLAND. It was revealed that before Mr Sumner Welles left Rome for New York he sent letters to the Polish Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in which he stressed the importance of the talks which had taken place with the Polish leaders in Paris, and expressed the friendliest feelings to the great Polish nation.
