The King, at his own expense, is presenting every Australian and New Zealander with a signed copy of his message of welcome, read on their arrival in Egypt. Some 8000 New Zealanders, headed by Major-General Freyberg, attended a special service at the Cathedral. Dr. Gwynne, Bishop of Egypt, who was the preacher, recalled that he had preached to the Anzacs in France during the Great War. The troops gave a stirring rendering of the Forty-second Psalm They later marched past enthusiatic crowds.
