NAZI ACCOMPLICES
GERMANS FEEL NO SHAME. The brutal fact which no single gesture can disguise, is that the German people feel no shame in following theib infamous leaders, says the London "Evening News" in combating the idea that, a distinction can be made between Nazi leaders and Gorman people. The guilt of Nazidom does not lies on tlie heads only of Hitler aipd his cronies. It lies on the heads of the millions of Germans who obey- with hysterical enthusiasm any- order, however revolting, and. so far from questioning the barbarities they arc called on to commit delight in them. It is futile to look on the Germans as nice, gentle people in the clutch of a gang of blackguards. The Nazi airmen who sink fishingboats and machine-gun tlie crews in the water are as blackguardly as Hitler: and so are the submarine commanders who leave sailors to drown in the empty seas. The wardens in the! concentration camps are neither nice! nor gentle; and the German Army did I things in Poland which no British j Army would ever do. even under j orders. |
