GAMES IN VARIOUS CENTRES. Auckland.—Bright cricket with good scores characterised the first day's play in the final series of the Auckland Cricket Association's championships. Dunedin.—The grade cricket premiership for 1939-40 was won by Grange dub from Carisbrook A, and the Dunedin season ended on Saturday, when matches were stopped early by steady rain, which came as a surprise after a beautifully fine early afternoon. Grange 288. beat Carisbrook A. 143 <H. Cameron 54; Lemin four for
48), and 35 for none, on the first innings. in the final. Kaikorai, 64. escaped with a draw against Dunedin. 167 for one (Macassey not out 77). University, 215 for five (Rennie, not out 65. Baker not out 49) recovered well to beat Old Boys. 172, on the first innings. Carisbrook B, 105 and 122 (Silver six for 44), beat Albion 73 and 83 for one, on the first innings. The final state of the championship was: Grange, 50 points; Carisbrook A. 44: Dunedin. 37; Kaikorai. 32; Old Boys. 28; University. 28; Carisbrook B, 24; Albion, 21. Wellington.—The annual cricket match between teams representing the management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association and the Wellington. Mercantile League was played at Kilbirnic on Saturday under ideal conditions. The Mercantile League team batted first, and made 131, this total being compiled by 13 men. Their opponents batted twelve men, and after the fall of the sixth wicket, had passed the Mercantile League total. Continuing they made 169, and thus won by 38 rims.
