WAR HELPERS
CANADIANS ACTIVE IN MANY WAYS. OTTAWA. Indicative of the wide desire of Canadians of all walks of life to assist in the prosecution of the war, is the large number of organisations which have been formed to carry on charitable work connected with, the war. Profiting by the experiences of the last war, the Canadian Government passed the War Charities Act in the special session of Parliament last September with the view to co-relating the activities of the many organisations seeking to give such assistance. More than 6'500 applications have been received to date from organisations that have indicated a desire to raise money for war work and charters have been granted to 200. Much of the work of these organisations deals with the comforts of Canadian soldiers, sailors and airmen and their dependents. A number of the organisations, however, such as the Canadian Red Cross, seeks also to give assistance to war sufferers in other countries by supplying relief, hospitals, ambulances and other similar services.
