OPTICAL SUPPLIES

INDICTMENT OF FIRMS IN U.S.A. UNDER ANTI-TRUST ACT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright NEW YORK, March 26. The Federal Grand Jury indicted the Bausch and Lomb Optical Company. of Rochester. Carl Zeiss, of Jena. Germany, and its New York subsidiary Carl Zeiss, Incorporated, on charges of monopolizing the world trade in military optical instruments, violating the Sherman Act. It is alleged that, by a secret agreement in 1921, the firms concerned divided the world market, with the result that Bausch and Lomb charged the United States Army and Navy unreasonable prices for military optical supplies.

The Sherman Act was the original anti-monopoly Federal Statute and came into effect on July 2, 1890.
