The third day’s autumn racing at Randwick today in sizzling weather saw Ajax in a further triumph over High Caste in the All-Aged Plate, which the Victorian champion won on his merits after leading all the way. Beaulivre hung on well but was not quiet equal to beating High Casto for second money.

Reading, who was a warm favourite for the Cumberland Plate, set a merry pace to near the home turn, when Maikai and Royal Chief overhauled him and left him almost standing. Maikai won in the finest style to the accompaniment of cheers. The New Zealander is. improving with every race.
