ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY
PAST SEASON’S ACTIVITIES.
PRESIDENT'S ANNUAL REPORT.
“The society continues on its successful way and looks forward, despite the war. to the 1940 season with every confidence,” states Mr A. E. Clemas. president of the Masterton Orchestral Society, in his annual report. “The spirit and loyalty of service given by the active members towards this optimism is much to be commended and credit and thanks are due to the conductor, Mr C. W. Kerry, for his guidance and interest taken in the younger players. While on this subject of players an invitation is cordially extended to instrumentalists to join and further strengthen the orchestra in its work and objects. It presents a good opportunity for players to gain experience and confidence. Practices are held every Tuesday evening in the Savage Club Room. Perry Street. "Both concerts were highly creditable performances and much appreciated by critical audiences, the second one in October being held under the auspices of ‘Recreation Week,’ this being your society’s contribution to the Government-sponsored effort to encourage healthy exercises and arts throughout the Dominion. We regret having to record the passing of several of our old supporters whose services over many years were of real value to the society in the persops of Messrs R. J. Young, D. A. Pickering, C. E. Daniell and F. J. Hunn.
“The society is almost wholly, dependent on honorary members for carrying on and a plea is made to all citizens who love good music and are not already members, to join up and help in the work of fostering the study and production of good music by our own people so that it shall not become quite a lost art. Members and intending members are invited to make a point of attending the annual meeting which will be held in the Savage Club Room. Perry Street, next Tuesday evening. March 26, at 7.30 o’clock. The business meeting will be followed by a social hour with light refreshments. A good attendance will be taken as encouragement by the management committee and players and thereby help materially in the life and-progress of the society.”
