BIG JOB FOR CITIZENS AND SOLDIERS
Tradition and Freedom to Uphold ’ ADDRESSES AT OPERA HOUSE LAST NIGHT Scenes of enthusiasm were witnessed in the Opera House last night when citizens gathered in large numbers to meet, district members of the Second Echelon, who were earlier entertained at dinner at the Hotel Midland. The speakers at the Opera House last night wore the Mayor, Air T. .Jordan, the president of the Wairarapa JI.S.A., Air R. AVhyhorn, and the member for Masterion, Air <l. Robertson, whose addresses were frequently punctuated with hearty applause. Lieut. I. Hart, who was greeted with thunderous applause, replied on behall of the Army and Navy. Besides the speakers and the guests of the evening, those on the stage were the Mayoress. Airs Jordan; Airs Robertson, Air A. E. Prentice, secretary of the Wairarapa. R.S.A., and Ah' G. T. O’Hara Smith, Town Clerk. The Mastertoll Municipal Band was in attendance and opened the proceedings with “God Defend New Zealand” and played the National Anthem at the conclusion of the gathering. Prominent among the audience were ex-Servieemen of the Great War, many wearing war decorations.
