TOWN CREEK DRY

EVENT NEVER BEFORE KNOWN. The Masterton Town Creek has dried up. This creek rises in Albert Street and some weeks ago there was some consternation among property owners along its banks, as it was noticed then that the flow of water was decreasing, while beyond Colombo Road the creek had dried up altogether. Now the whole creek is dry. This is the first time known that the creek has dried up. The cause is a matter of conjecture. It is unlikely that the weather is responsible, as there have been drier seasons in which the flow of water was unimpaired. Another suggestion that the recent river improvement work may have been responsible is not entertained by those with authority to speak, as the improvements are well below the source of the stream.
