Motorist Charged.
James Robert Fairbairn, who was charged that on February 29. on the Carterton-Maslerton Main Highway, ho failed to keep his motor vehicle as close as practicable io the left side of the roadway, was convicted and discharged when he appeared before Messrs W. G. Lamb and A. D. Low, J.’sP.. in the Masterton Magistrate’s Court this morning. Debris From Lorries. As it is an offence for drivers of motor vehicles to allow any debris carried mi their vehicles to be deposited on a street, drivers should take every precaution to prevent such an occurrence. On two occasions recently straw and sawdust have littered Masterion streets as (lie result of being blown or dropped oil passing motor lorries. Tennis Coincidences. The champions for (lie 1939-40 season at the Pahiatua Tennis Club were t'oimd on Saturday afternoon, when a scries ol limit matches were played off. The niens senior event saw J. G. Swainson and his son. G. M. Swainson, fight the final, Swainson junior winning fairly easily in straight sets. It is not otten that father and son occupy the position of runner-up and champion in Die club tourney, but there was an even greater coincidence titan this. In the ladies’ championsli.ps, senior, intermediate and junior, the honours went to throe players by name of Bisset. The senior championship was you by Miss G. Bisset. the intermediate by Miss IVI. Bisset. and lite junior by Miss P. Bisset. The men's inti? -mediate title was won by Robin .Matthews, and Die junior title by S K. Siddells.
