FOUNDATION MEMBERS ENTERTAINED.
("Times-Age” Special.)
A complimentary gathering was tendered on the Haunui green yesterday to Mesdames- Wakely, Barry and Miss Eva Card, foundation members, by the rest of the club. In a short speech Mrs Carlycn expressed on behalf of the members their appreciation of the many services performed in the past by their guests who had all held office and had carried out their duties most faithfully to the benefit of the club. The toast to their health was drunk with musical honours, after which Mesdames Wakely, Barry and Miss Card returned thanks for the honour extended to them. Afternoon tea was served, the tables being tastefully decorated by Miss Viles.
Competitions for quarter-hour games were then held, the winners being:— A grade: Miss Eva Card. 1; Mrs Carl.von, 2. B grade: Mrs W. Card. 1; Mrs Knutson. 2. Lowest score: Mrs Hankers.
The foundation members then played a match which was won by Mesdames Barry and Wakely, thus bringing to a close a most enjoyable afternoon. Posies were presented to the guests during the afternoon. Haunui croquet club players are taking part in the day tournament which is oeing held in Masterton today in aid of the funds of the Wairarapa Association. RIFLE SHOOTING McGILL SHIELD. The following are the scores in the shoot for the McGill Shield, being the second, of two series at 600 yards, two shoots of 10 shots each: —N. Nix, 45, 44, 89; I. Feast, 45. 44, 89; T. Orr, 44, 44, 88; J. Johnson, 46, 42, 88; L. G. Benton. 45. 43, 88; W. S. Benton, 46, 41. 87; W. Johnson 46. 36. 82; K. McKenzie. 39. 37, 76. W. Johnson and J. Johnson have tied for the trophy and will fire off at a later date. P. & T. DEPARTMENT EASTER ARRANGEMENTS. The following are the arrangements for the Easter holidays in connection with the Featherston Postal and Telegraph Department.—Good Friday: Observed as a Sunday. Easter Monday: The Post and Telegraph Office will be closed in all branches with the exception of the telephone exchange, which will remain open continuously as usual. Mails for despatch will close at 7.30 a.m. Street receivers will be cleared at 7 a.m. Rural deliveries: Featherston — Tauherenikau: This service will be suspended on Good Friday, Easter Saturday, and Easter Monday. Featherston —Whangaimoana: This service will be suspended on Good Friday and Easter Monday. Featherston —Wharepapa: This service will be run on Thursday, 21st instant, instead of Good Friday, 22nd idem. Personal. As the result of the recount of marks in connection with the recent home nursing examination, Mrs V. Bergh and Miss J. Hardie are included in the list of those having passed with honours (80 per cent or over of marks). Patriotic Effort. At a meeting of the National Patriotic Service Welfare Committee it was reported that the amount received to date from Featherston and the district was £l9O. A euchre party and dance was held in the Pahautea Hall on Saturday night and was well attended. The prize-winners were:--Ladies: Miss I. Frew, 1; Mrs R. Elbe, 2. Men: Mr A. McKay, 1; Mr S. Pound 2. Aggregate: Ladies: Mrs G. Enoka, 1; Miss Cade, 2. Men: Mr L. Ruka, 1; Mr C. Corlet, 2.
