AMERICAN PLANES
NO HALT IN ALLIED PURCHASES. STATEMENT BY MINISTERS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received Ths Dav. 12.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON. March 18. The Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. H. Morgenthau) denied that the Allies had suspended negotiations for the purchase of warplanes.
The Acting-Secretary for the Navy. Mr. Edison, in a letter to Mr Vinson (chairman of the House of Representatives Naval Committee) said the sale of aircraft to the Allies did not interfere with the Navy’s procurement. On the contrary, it tended lo reduce costs and to expedite deliveries for export. The manufacture was valuable economically and from the point of view of national defence. Enlarged plants would insure the execution of future United States programmes.
