ST. PATRICK’S DAY
CELEBRATION BY IRISH FUSILIERS. SIR JOHN DILL PRESENTS SHAMROCK. (British Official Wireiess.) RUGBY, March 17. The Royal Irish Fusiliers, serving with the 8.E.F., received a shamrock today from General Sir John Dill, who is himself an Irishman. Before performing the traditional St Patrick’s Day ceremony, Sir John, addressing the regiment, said: “Today you will wear the emblem of Ireland—‘shamrock’—in your capes. Wear it proudly —we are proud of you Irish soldiers, who for generations have fought for King and country and played such an outstanding part in creating, maintaining and defending the British Empire.”
