READING SCORES IN PLATE. SYDNEY, March 17. Saturday's racing at the Warwick Farm meeting held at Randwick was extremely interesting. Yours Truly, in winning the Autumn Cup, had a desperate duel with Gold Spark, who is much in favour for the Sydney Cup. Reading won the Chipping Norton Plate with comparative ease. Royal Chief, though he finished fourth, was outclassed. Geebung greatly enhanced his Doncaster Handicap prospects by finishing third in the Liverpool Handicap. After being last at the turn he was narrowly defeated by Denis and Adios. The chief results were: —

Chipping Norton Plate, w.f.a., l.|m.: Reading, 8.6 (Munro), 1; Mosaic, 9.0 (Shean), 2; Dashing Cavalier, 8.0 (McCarten), 3. High Caste was scratched. Two lengths; neck. Royal Chief was fourth. Time, 2.31.

Liverpool Handicap, 6f.: Denis, 8.6 (Cook), 1; Adios, 9.0 (Munro), 2; Geebung, 8.5 (Badger), 3. Fifteen started, including Gold Rod and Gold Salute. Head; neck. Gold Salute was fifth. Time, 1.12. Warwick Farm Autumn Cup, l£m.: Yours Truly, 8.1 (Cook), 1; Gold Spark, 7.12 (Andrews), 2; Own Folk, 7.13 (Bartie), 3. Ten started. Half a neck; half a length. Time, 2.313. Jockey F. Shean, rider of Gold Salute, complained that the starter allowed the field to go before his mount was ready in the Liverpool Handicap, and said his mount was a “real certainty beaten.” The starter, Mr Gaxieu, replied that Gold Salute was troublesome at the barrier, and backed out at the precise moment the barrier rose. Shean has asked the owner, Mr Alan Cooper, to be relieved of the mount on Gold Salute in the, Doncaster Handicap.

Jockej r W. Cook is to ride Yours Truly in the Sydney Cup. There is some doubt whether Reading will start in the Sydney Cup. He may be reserved for the Caulfield or Melbourne Cup, following his brilliant win in the Chipping Norton Stakes, in a second under Phar Lap’s Randwick record. Old Bill Runs Good Race. Drawing No 1 at the post, and getting away well, Old Bill was always in a winning position in the Autumn Handicap at the Wellington Meeting on Saturday. He was never further back than third in behind Beaupartir and Lady Furst, and running through as they left the false rail, he fought off his challengers in very determined style. White Rajah made a bold bid from the false rail after being prominent in all the running, but the greatest danger at the finish came from Yogi. Yogi and Hunting Cat had got chopped out at the start, and Yogi tailed the field until they were passing the half-mile, where he commenced to move up. He was travelling fast at the end, and pushed Old Bill to his best, but the ground he had to make up was just too much. Yogi’s was a remarkable effort. Homily, Galteemore, Siegmund. Jack Tar, and Willie Win were never really dangerous. Canterbury Rehandicaps. The following are the rehandicaps for the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting: Great Easter Handicap, 7f: Old Bill 8.13, Kathbella 8.10. Flammarion 7.11. Density. 7.9...... ■ Great Autumn' 'HaW'dicapF.Hlm -Old. Bill 9.4. ...
