THREAT OF CONFLICT
ON MONGOLIAN FRONTIER. RUSSIAN AND JAPANESE PREPARATIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. NEW YORK. March 16. The Peking correspondent of the Associated Press of America says there are indications that both Russia and Japan are reinforcing their positions in the Nomonhan hill section of the Manchukuo-Mongolian frontier in preparation for the "annual war." A Tokio report says the Japanese Government has sent a written protest to the Soviet Embassy asserting that Russians illegally attacked a Japanese patrol on the island of Saghalien. possession of which is divided between Russia and Japan. The clash resulted in two Japanese and 12 Russian casualties.
The Tokio correspondent of the Associated Press of America says the former Premier. General Abo, has been appointed a special envoy to the prospective Wang Ching-wei Government in China and is expected to depart early in April.
