METHODIST CHURCH
LADIES’ GUILD MEETING. The monthly gathering of the Methodist Ladies’ Guild was held in the Sunday School Hall this week, Mrs Parker presiding over a good attendance and leading the meeting in hymn and prayer. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Elliott, Lyttle, Whittock and Hansen. Owing to unavoidable circumstances the date of the next meeting was altered from the second to the fourth Wednesday in April. Correspondence was received regarding work for the women’s branch of the Patriotic Society. Mrs Handyside reported that her team for the National Patriotic Appeal were on the job. Mrs Keltie entertained the ladies with two excellent elocutionary items. A reading on “Interruptions” (Rita Snowden) was given by Miss Jackson. All ladies present kindly brought a cup and saucer each. These gifts were for the Guild and Missionary Auxiliary crockery cupboard. Rhymes accompanying the gifts proved both appropriate and amusing. During the afternoon Mrs Prior presented Mrs Parker with a beautiful posy and a small gift from the ladies, this being the president’s last guild with them before her departure to Lower Hutt. Mrs Parker thanked the ladies for their gifts, saying she regretted leaving Masterton. Votes of thanks were passed to those who had contributed to the programme and to the hostesses for the afternoon.
The meeting concluded by pronouncing the Benediction.
