MONTHLY MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT.
MEMORIAL PARK IMPROVEMENTS
The monthly meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust ' was held last night, the chairman, Mr H. P. Hugo, presiding. There were also present: Messrs R. Krahagen, J. Macfarlane Laing, C. E. Grey, E. G. Eton. R. Page. J. H. Handyside, H. H. Daniell and A. Owen Jones. Accounts for £1263 7s lid were passed. The treasurer's statement showed that for the period April 1. 1939, to March 31, 1940, actual receipts to date totalled £6125 16s lOd as compared with an estimate of £6775 14s lid. Expenditure for the same date totalled £4547 14s lOd. as compared with an estimate of £6775 14s lid. The statement showed a credit balance for the combined accounts of £1763 Is 4d. The Masterton Head Teachers’ Association wrote thanking the trustees for granting assistance to children in needy circumstances, enabling them to visit the Exhibition with the schools' excursion. Forty would be assisted at a cost of £l2.'
■The request of the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, for the use of the Opera House during the present Centennial Week, was granted. The use of the Opera House for the dress cavalcade and the farewell to the local members of the Second Echelon next week was also granted. The Superintendant of the Masterton Fire Brigade, Mr T. B. Clark, advised that the fire equipment at ihe Opera House had been inspected and listed, and found to be in good order.
An application from the Masterton Head Teachers’ Association for a grant of £5O towards the upkeep of the combined primary schools’ library, and a renewed application for grants tn support of the Wairarapa College l ibrary were deferred until the estimates for the next financial year were framed. The chairman offered to make arrangements for the Mayor. Mr T. Jordan. and the borough works committee to examine the Memorial Park with the trustees, with a view to improving the park generally. On the motion of Mr Grey, seconded by Mr Daniell it was decided to write to the Masterton Borough Council to find out if the tar sealing of Macara Street had been placed on the current year’s estimates, it being pointed out that tenants were experiencing a great deal of trouble with the oust nuisance.
