WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT ALFREDTON. ("Times-Age” Special.') The monthly meeting of the Alfretlton Women's Institute was held recently. There was a fair attendance of. members. Mrs Hull presided. The Ode to Friendship was sung, and ine prayer lor peace was read. The 'meeting decided to forward this month two parcels of comforts for soldiers. The annual meeting was also held. The report and balance sheet was adopted. Tire election of officers resulted:— President, Mrs Stan Edmonds; vicepresidents. Mesdames G. Napier and W. Rolls: temporary secretary, Miss S. Napier; treasurer, Miss Jean Algie; committee. Mesdames Algie, Clarkson, Payne, G. Napier, Hutchings. S. Napier, E. McLean, Weston, Rolls. ,i. Parsonson an-.l Miss Jean Algie. Mrs G. Napier won the prize for the best bloom for the year with 1!) points. Mis Dickens and Mrs Weston tied for second place with 16 points. The points prize, was won by Mrs E. McLean with 2.6 points. Mrs West)/, being runner-up with 18 points. Mrs 3. McLean also gained the prize ioi' most entries. She is the holder of the cup for the year. The prize for most entries with no place went to Mrs R. Low and that for girls, most entries, to Miss S. Napier, with Miss J. Algie second.

Mrs G. Napier and Mrs Clee were appointed delegates to attend the Woodville Council meeting. The competition for the best bloom for the afternoon resulted: —Mrs George (Giadiolai. 1; Mrs Parsonson and Mrs Dickens (equal), 2: Mrs G. Napier (petunia). 4. Mis Rolls proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the retiring president, secretery mid treasurer, and complimented them on the excellent manner in which they had carried out their duties. The motion, was carried by acclamation'. The officials named were presented with bouquets by Mrs Weston. Mrs Weston, an executive member, also received a bouquet. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames G. Napier. Algie and Percy.
